Formula E: Indian stage excluded from the seasonal calendar

Last year, one of the stages of the World Electric Car Racing Championship was held for the first time on a city circuit in the Indian city of Hyderabad, and Formula E would take place here again in 2024. , but the championship organizers shared the unpleasant news: this stage had to be canceled.

The fourth leg of the season was to take place in Hyderabad, and at the end of October, all necessary agreements in this regard were signed, and they were multi-year in nature, but the Telangana city government and state government unilaterally terminated them.

Formula E management has already sent the Indian side an official notice of breach of contract, stating in particular that the championship organizers choose the tactics of further actions and reserve the right to resolve any issues that arise in court unload.

Alberto Longo, co-founder and CEO of Formula E, said: “We care deeply about the huge fan base of Indian motorsport. We understand that hosting a World Championship race is an important and prestigious event for Hyderabad and the whole of India.

“Akbar Ebrahim, President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and his team are giving us their full support to bring Formula 1 back to Hyderabad. They are also angry about the state government’s decision, which means the race will take place.”

Jeff DoddCEO of Formula E: “It is very disappointing that we cannot build on last year’s success. The debut race, held in 2023, generated an economic impact of nearly $84 million for the region. We are also angry with our key Indian partners, especially Mahindra and Tata Communications.

The race in Hyderabad was important to demonstrate the benefits of switching to electric vehicles in a market where pollution from vehicle exhaust is a major problem, which is harmful to human health and the environment.”

The Formula E season starts in a week: Mexico will host the first round of the 2024 championship on January 13.
