Ferrari failed to take pole in qualifying, with Leclerc losing 0.029 seconds to Verstappen, but Ferrari’s sporting director Laurent Mekis is optimistic.
Laurent Mekis: “We knew the battle in qualifying would be exciting. During practice we worked hard on optimizing the car and were quite competitive, losing only a few thousandths on pole. We didn’t manage to show the best time, but this happens in a tense fight. Let’s try to win the race.
The most important aspect of this weekend is that it is very long. We are waiting for a race of 400 kilometers in two parts. It was important to make sure we would do everything right from the start of the weekend.
Now a very interesting challenge awaits us and our colleagues in Maranello. The gap to rivals is minimal, the smallest detail can play a decisive role. We will do our best to help riders achieve even better results.”
