We wrote that during the days of the La Vegas Grand Prix, local casinos made record profits, but many also suffered losses – and they are demanding compensation from the organizers.
Business owner on Formula 1 racing’s impact on Las Vegas: “We as a community have been deceived, we have been fooled”; businessmen ask Clark County, LVCVA, F1 for compensation for loss of income
Randy Markin, owner of Battista’s Restaurant and general manager of Stage Door Casino: “We as a community have been misled. This has never happened before. But the situation got out of hand. Formula 1 simply didn’t know how to deal with the community.
We want to avoid a class action lawsuit against Clark County, Formula 1 and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). Instead, the company wants to work with the province, the race promoter and the tourism board to receive compensation for the lost revenue.
We don’t need lawsuits. We want to turn something negative into something positive. It will be much better if the County Commission, LVCVA and FI come together and proactively address this issue.”
