Sky Sport F1 journalist Ted Kravitz believes Toto Wolff should take some of the responsibility for the fact that the team did not immediately abandon the failed concept of the 2022 car, but started developing it…
Ted Kravitz: “We don’t know why after the failure of W13, so-and-so gave the green light to repeat this concept in W14. Hamilton called the W14 the sister of the W13 and they were both failures.
As a leader, Toto could say: “I don’t agree, let’s stick to the Red Bull concept.” But for some reason they didn’t.
He made this decision and after qualifying in Bahrain, I remember this interview well, he said the car was weak. This was after qualifying for the first Grand Prix.
Obviously he was right, but they immediately and completely abandoned the new concept, and in my opinion this is due to the fact that Toto did not have the calm and confident leadership that we are used to.
I think Toto learned a lot during those two disappointing seasons, which led to the transfer of Mike Elliott and the return of James Ellison to the role of technical director.
Toto has his shortcomings and his inadequate reaction to a failed car played a role, but he also has his strengths. “The recent problems with the FIA have shown that Toto is not afraid to fight for himself, for his family and for his team.”
