Red Bull Racing chief Christian Horner has confirmed that the company will introduce its first production hypercar in 2024, the RB17, developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies led by Adrian Newey.
The car is equipped with a hybrid power plant with a V8 engine and a total power of 1250 hp. The plan is to produce 15 cars each year, and a total of 50 units will be produced. Most have already been sold and the first completed cars will reach owners in 2025.
Originally the RB17 was intended to be produced exclusively for race tracks, but a version for normal roads is also possible.
Christian Horner: “Adrian already wanted to build a car for us in 2014. Then we found a way out by entering into a partnership with Aston Martin to develop the Valkyrie model. The Valkyrie is a great car and I’m sure it has a great future, but you’re always learning, whether you’re in Formula 1 or in advanced technology.
Red Bull Advanced Technologies has been around for almost eight years and in that time an enormous amount of knowledge has been amassed. In an era of budgetary constraints, in order to preserve existing resources, it is necessary to launch projects that can justify the existence of the company.
RB17 is an ideal project where we can use all our experience and expertise. It will complement and not detract from our activities in Formula 1.”
