In Formula 1, the discussions continue on the parameters of the power plants that should appear on the machines in 2026. Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel believes it is important for the FIA to take past experience into account when switching to new engines and not allow a situation where modern power plants are too complex for use in production cars.
Sebastian Vettel: “Our engines are incredible. They are powerful, incredibly efficient, perhaps the most efficient, but can you ever drive an ordinary car with such an engine? No.
The fuel that was poured into Williams during the races at Silverstone cost me 5.95 euros per litre, which is much more expensive than regular petrol at petrol stations. Although we must not forget that the engines in conventional cars are very different from those in Williams.
However, the fuel used in Formula 1 today is four to five times more expensive than what I bought for my races. The reason for the high price is that the engine, along with the fuel, is designed to get more power and stay ahead of the competition.
There must be competition, but it must be steered in the right direction. I do not want to say that the situation will definitely get out of hand and that the new power plants will prove too complicated and inapplicable on ordinary roads. However, the management should do everything possible to avoid such a situation.
I don’t know what awaits us because until now it has not been possible to reach a consensus on which engines should be in 2026. It’s always hard to come to an agreement when there are a lot of people trying to agree.”
