Famen: Summer layoffs have revealed our potential

During the season, Alpine F1 unexpectedly dismissed experienced Otmar Szafnauer and Alan Permain after sharp criticism from management. The team was temporarily led by Bruno Famen, who recently said that he considers this decision correct.

Bruno Famen: “Thanks to these changes we have made the team’s potential more visible. Employees began to offer their own ideas much more freely, which almost immediately affected the results and the mood of the team.

We have promoted Rob Cherry from Chief Mechanic to Race Crew Manager and Dylan Milligan to Chief Mechanic. They do an excellent job at generating ideas and motivating the technicians.

Until July the team’s potential was limited, this applied to the pits, technology and strategy, but after that we were able to do what we did not dare to do before. We are using more equipment and using the car’s potential better, and I am very happy with that.

There are many talented specialists in the team, we must help them realize their ideas in the development of the machine, in our work. The aim is to utilize the team’s full potential, resulting in both the best car and the best results.

After the failure in Monza, together we carefully analyzed everything, found a solution, adjusted the aerodynamic elements, produced them, mounted them on the car – and they worked.

“Previously we would have said, ‘Okay, we’re 15th in Monza. But now the reaction was very different, positive and it paid off. But even more important was the change in mood in the team. Now we must consolidate this process.”
