Jenson Button praises his compatriot Lando Norris, but notes the weakness of the McLaren driver. According to the 2009 world champion, Norris’s desire to constantly evaluate himself and look for flaws is working against Lando himself.
Jenson Button: “Lando has incredible talent. I saw him driving a Formula 1 car for the first time in Hungary, because I was also driving for McLaren at the time. It’s amazing how quickly he found an approach for her.
Lando is a smart guy. He constantly analyzes everything, but sometimes this goes to his disadvantage. He becomes very focused on himself and this causes him to think that he is not good enough. But Norris is actually very good. He is an excellent driver and I can’t wait to see him in a car that can win as soon as possible. But I don’t know when that will happen.”
Button added that he advises Norris to be patient as he awaits his first victory: “He has a difficult road ahead because there is a dominant driver in the championship and only he can win. In such a situation, second place is an excellent starting point. But we all hope that one man’s dominance will not last forever.
Lando has to be ahead of his partner and all the other guys on the grid. It must be frustrating for him to see one team dominate for so many years, but sooner or later that will change.”
