Haas F1 has confirmed that Günter Steiner has resigned as team boss and will be replaced by Ayo Komatsu.
Gen HaasTeam owner: “First of all, I would like to thank Günter Steiner for his hard work over the past ten years and wish him all the best for the future.
Looking ahead, it was clear to us that it was important to improve our performance on track. By appointing Ayo Komatsu as team leader, we have emphasized the importance of engineering work.
We have made some progress, but we must be consistent in our desire to achieve better results on the track. We must use the resources we have effectively, but improving our design and engineering capabilities is key to the team’s success.
I look forward to working with Ayo to maximize our potential – it really reflects my desire to compete well in Formula 1.”
Ayo Komatsu: “I am very excited about the opportunity to lead Haas F1. I have been with the team since its debut on track in 2016 and am passionate about its success. I look forward to leading our program and creating a structure that will support increased performance on the track.
Our business is based on results. Obviously we haven’t been competitive enough lately, which is disappointing for all of us. Gene and our partners have given us great support and we want to respond with better results on the track. We have a great team of specialists in Kannapolis, Banbury and Maranello, and I know that together we can achieve the results we deserve.”
