Oscar Piastri made his Formula 1 debut with McLaren in 2023 and was recognized as the best rookie at the end of the season, for which he received a special FIA award, and his success in the second half of the year was truly impressive. In Japan he reached the podium for the first time, after which he won the Saturday sprint in the next stage, in Qatar, and finished second in the race.
However, his first successes in Formula 1 were preceded by years of hard work, when Oscar, in pursuit of his dream, moved from one level of the racing ‘pyramid’ to another, gradually reaching the highest category of motor racing .
In particular, he won consecutive titles in three major youth series: Formula Renault Eurocup, F3 and F2, missing a year when he was reserve driver for Alpine. And only in 2022 the opportunity arose to sign a contract with McLaren and get a place in the main team.
When asked what advice he can give to young drivers who dream of entering Formula 1, Oscar replied: “Never give up. There will always be some obstacles and difficulties in your path, but they help build your character and become better.
You must always maintain this belief in your power, through which you have already achieved something. And the second point: the work you do must bring pleasure. It is clear that motorsport is not an easy pursuit, but the passion that made you choose this path should not fade.
Not just in Australia, but I think people worldwide in general are becoming more and more interested in motorsport, the level of youth series is rising, competition is growing and the potential of young drivers is being well tested. Unfortunately, this is not a simple process and there is no one reliable and proven path, but I think this can provide you with a good foundation.”
