Alan Permain, the former sporting director of Alpine F1 who was fired midway through last season from the team he had worked for for almost 35 years, appears to have found a new job. The European racing press writes that the experienced British specialist has been invited to AlphaTauri, although it is not yet clear for what position.
Permain started his Formula 1 career in 1989 and joined Benetton as an electronics engineer. In 1996 he became a racing engineer, and when the Enstone team was renamed Renault F1 and given factory status, Alan became an engineer for drivers such as Jarno Trulli and Giancarlo Fisichella.
In 2007, Permain was promoted to chief racing engineer and in 2012, when the team had already become Lotus F1, he was promoted to sporting director. Permain remained in this position following a further team name change until his resignation last year, but his experience will obviously be in high demand in Formula 1.
As AlphaTauri is undergoing major changes this year, from a management change to the upcoming sign change, it is expected that Laurent Mekies, who leads the team, will look to strengthen its staff with top-level professionals.
