Streaming service Apple+ ordered the shooting of a biographical series about Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the legendary Italian company.
The series, which is expected to be called Ferrari, will be based on Luca Dal Monte’s biography of Enzo Ferrari. The main events span the five-year period of Enzo’s life from 1956 to 1961, and tell of the trials Ferrari had to overcome – the death of Dino’s first son, a terrible accident in the Mille Miglia race in 1957 and the subsequent lawsuits, numerous financial difficulties .
The showrunner of the project is Steven Knight, the creator of the British crime series Peaky Blinders, and Paolo Sorrentino, the Italian director and Oscar winner, will be the executive producer. Stefano Sollima has been invited to direct the series.
The series for Apple+ is not the only project dedicated to Enzo Ferrari. A full-length feature film about the Commendatore’s life is currently in production. The film was directed by Michael Mann and the role of Ferrari was entrusted to Adam Driver, known to the general public for his role as Kylo Ren in Star Wars. Laura, Ferrari’s wife, is played by Penelope Cruz.
