In 2026, Audi will make its debut in Formula 1 as a supplier of power sources for Sauber, which will in fact become the factory team of the German concern. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou currently drive for Stake/Sauber and both want to stay with the team in 2026, but Audi appears to have other plans with the driver line-up.
According to the official Formula 1 website, Esteban Ocon is “very high” on the candidate list for a seat at Audi. The French driver’s contract with Alpine expires at the end of 2024 and Audi will try to sign him.
Another candidate for a place in the team is Nico Hulkenberg. He has extensive experience in Formula 1 and, important for Audi, a German passport. The Ocon-Hulkenberg combination could be a good option for Audi, which wants to compete for victories a few years after its debut.
