In 2026, Red Bull Racing’s cars will feature power units developed by the British team with support from Ford. Manager Christian Horner shared an update on how work is progressing in this direction.
Christian Horner: “We have a lot of work to do, because there are only 24 months left before the engines are installed on the RB22. In the motorcycle world this is a short period and we still have a lot to do. But I’m sure everything will be fine, because we have real professionals working for us.”
Not so long ago, information appeared in the Italian press that Ferrari had already started testing the engine for the 2026 season. When asked whether Red Bull has already started bench testing, Horner replied: “I don’t want go into detail about the phase we are in now, but the most important thing is that the work is going according to plan.
We have a lot to do and a lot of catching up to do as we compete with manufacturers with decades of experience. Just 30 months ago, our project was still in its infancy, so in 13 months we achieved excellent results.”
Asked if there was any concern within the team that Max Verstappen might try to leave if his own engine didn’t meet expectations, Horner said: “I think it’s not just Max. We are all very impatient in Formula 1.
Everyone wants to be competitive. We have taken on a bold project because we believe it is the right path for the future of the team.”
