Mercedes technical director James Allison has extended his contract with the team by signing a new multi-year deal. Mercedes expects this move to strengthen its technical department before the transition to new regulations in 2026.
James Allison joined Mercedes in 2017 as technical director. Under his leadership, the team won four drivers’ titles and five constructors’ championships in a row.
James Ellison: “Formula 1 has brought me many successful projects, but nothing compares to the offer that Toto Wolff made me to work at Mercedes in 2017. I am honored to continue this partnership and work with great colleagues to achieve championship success.”
Toto Wolff, team manager: “I am very pleased that James has committed his long-term future to the team. Simply put, he is the most impressive technical director in our sport. His fighting spirit, knowledge, experience and determination make him a unique specialist, but his influence extends much further.
Since joining the team in 2017, James has become an important ally and sparring partner for me. We can challenge each other openly and honestly, embodying the ‘tough love’ team culture that is essential to helping us all perform at our best.
But most importantly, James is a true friend who you can rely on not only in the days of success, but also in difficult moments. It has been a pleasure working with him over the past seven years and I look forward to continuing.”
