In 2023, Lando Norris had the best season of his career: he finished on the podium seven times, achieved 205 points and finished sixth in the individual rankings. In comments to the McLaren press office, Lando said he has improved last year, that the team is on the right track and that they in Woking are looking at the new season with cautious optimism.
Lando Norris: “I learned a lot last season in terms of driving and teamwork. For example, my team and I have put a lot of effort into becoming more open.
When I communicate with engineers, I prefer to tell the truth. It is better to be strict but fair. If I had a bad race, tell me. If I have performed well, tell me I am good. It is not always easy to say something, but it is very important and we will continue to do so to learn from each other and help each other.
My teammate Oscar Piastri had an incredible season. He remained calm and remained himself. I think he handles pressure very well, better than I did in my rookie year. We are all different, so we all handle pressure differently and stay calm and cool.
I believe I have gotten better in recent years because I now know myself better and understand how to deal with difficult situations. I have a lot of respect for Oscar because he remained calm in Formula 1, in a new environment on the big stage.
Our team is on the right track. We’ve learned a lot in the last four, five, six months. The team drew conclusions from the progress made. New specialists have come to work for us. And while not all of their ideas can be immediately implemented in a car, there are some things we already know.
I am excited because we have chosen the right path and know in which direction to attack. I just want to start the season successfully. If we do well in Bahrain, I will be even more excited.”
