The Audi Sport team won the Dakar Rally for the first time with an off-road prototype of the Audi RS Q e-tron – this happened in the third year of participation of the German company’s factory team in one of the most difficult competitions in the world motorsport.
The crew of Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz, his navigator, coped best with the numerous challenges that the Dakar participants had to overcome along the 7,900 km route, taking 1st place with a lead of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The Audi RS Q e-tron is an all-wheel drive SUV specially designed for rally attacks, equipped with high-voltage batteries and an energy converter powered by an additional combustion engine – a complex design, but it ensures a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions in the atmosphere.
The management of Audi AG congratulated the team on this success.
Gernot Dollner, Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors: “Congratulations to the Audi Sport Team on their victory in the Dakar Rally.” This is another milestone for Audi in motorsport and a real technological breakthrough that points us towards an electric future.”
Oliver Hofmann, chief engineer of Audi, member of the company’s board of directors: “With our revolutionary electric vehicle, we have passed the most difficult test in the motorsport world in just three years. In this way we continue the long line of excellence that the Audi brand has always achieved during its four decades of involvement in motorsport competition.
I would like to thank the entire team for this excellent result in a rally that was particularly challenging this year.”
