Before the start of the race weekend in Austria, McLaren installed a new power station on Lando Norris’ car. Already in the first practice, the engine failed and the team had to return the previous installation to their rider.
Team principal Andreas Seidl is hopeful that the new engine can be repaired and used in the coming stages.
Andreas Seidl: “The power station that failed on Lando’s car on Friday was new and third in a row. Mercedes HPP is investigating to determine the cause but I hope they can fix it and we put this engine back on the car in the future.
It is of course not a good thing that Lando had to hand in the old power plant, as the power decreases with the distance travelled. But even with the old bike we were able to compete in Austria and show results in the race.”
