“Ferrari” extended the contract with the Monegasque Charles Leclerc the driver will continue to compete for the Italian team after 2024, reports the Formula 1 team’s press service.
The terms of the agreement are not specified, Leclerc’s previous contract was valid until the end of the upcoming season. Earlier, Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the team had agreed with the 26-year-old driver to extend his employment contract until the end of 2029. It was also claimed that Leclerc’s salary would double to 50 million euros per year.
“I am very happy to know that I will wear the Ferrari suit for several more seasons.” I’ve dreamed of playing for this team since I was three years old: I watched the Monaco Grand Prix from a friend’s apartment window and always kept an eye out for the red cars. This team has become my second family since I joined the academy in 2016. We have achieved a lot together through various challenges over the past five years. However, I believe the best is yet to come and I look forward to the new season progressing further and being competitive at every race. “My dream is to win the World Championship with Ferrari and I am sure that in the years to come we will have great times together and delight our fans,” said the Monegasque.
Leclerc has been driving for Ferrari since 2019. In the 2022 season he became runner-up and in 2023 he took fifth place in the individual Formula 1 standings with 206 points in 22 races. Throughout his tenure at Ferrari, he competed in 103 races, finished on the Grand Prix podium 30 times, set seven fastest laps and scored 1,035 points.
The current deal for another of the team’s drivers, Spaniard Carlos Sainz, runs until the end of 2024.
