Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali has already said that the signing of a contract to host the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid does not mean the Barcelona circuit will be left without a World Cup stage.
Roger Torrent, minister of business affairs in the Catalan government, told local radio station RAC1 that he was optimistic that Formula 1 would remain in Barcelona after 2025.
Roger Torrent: “I am convinced that the contract will be extended. We have an excellent relationship with Formula 1 and are working in this direction. Spain will host two fantastic Grand Prix – the best in history.
It doesn’t matter to us what the stage in Barcelona will be called. For us, the term of the contract is much more important: the longer, the better. We are upgrading the infrastructure and necessary facilities to make Barcelona the best stationary track in Europe or even the world.
We have been in constant contact with Formula 1 for a long time and are negotiating at a pace that is comfortable for us. The relationship between Formula 1 and Catalonia is determined solely by Formula 1 and Catalonia.
We will hold the race in 2024. Stefano Domenicali said that we have an excellent relationship and this will be the basis for working on a contract extension. I’m sure it will be extended.”
