Alonso shared his impressions of the pre-season

Aston Martin drivers returned to the team’s base after the winter break and we wrote that the seats of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll had been adjusted.

Fernando is already actively working on the simulator and told the team’s press service about his mood in this important phase of preparation for the new season.

Fernando Alonso: “Although this is my 21st season in Formula 1, I still feel the same adrenaline rush because this is a very special time of year. Even after so many years in F1 I don’t see any significant differences and I still feel joy and excitement.

I constantly think about how I can improve, how to improve my racing skills, watch previous races, including last year’s, and sometimes notice new trajectories, and also analyze the tactics used by different teams.

To improve a rider must have this curiosity; it helps improve ourselves because we never stop learning. And to learn these lessons correctly, you need the right attitude.

To win in Formula 1 you need maximum calmness. I call it ‘hyperfocus’ – without this special focus and determination, high results cannot be achieved.

In the first days of the new working year it is important to get into the right mindset, to get used to the speed of the car again, so to warm up we drove more than a hundred laps on the simulator on three different circuits and a number of ideas tested regarding our new car.

The simulator in modern Formula 1 is a very important and powerful tool. It allows you to simulate in a very realistic way the behavior of a car on the track, testing a number of technical solutions before implementing them and before working on the real track.

When you work on the simulator, you need full concentration, you have to complete the laps very precisely and formulate your impressions very carefully, which you share with the engineers. In this regard, such work is no different from driving on a real track – you work with the steering wheel and pedals in the same way, you feel the vibrations in the same way, attacking the curbs. This is all displayed very realistically on the simulator.

In general, so far everything is going well, preparations for the season are in full swing, everyone is in an optimistic mood – it is very happy to see this. From the team we contribute to refining the new machine in this phase of its creation. Now it is very important to get into the right rhythm and attend all meetings to be aware of what exactly is changing in the car.

The ‘hyperfocus’ mentioned above works with complete dedication. But it is also important to help the entire team get into the right mindset: we are ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to prepare for the new season. 2023 was a very successful year for us and 2024 will be even better!”
