Formula E: Sebastien Buemi will not participate in the race

Sebastien Buemi cannot start on Saturday in the race of the double stage of the Formula E season, which takes place this weekend in Saudi Arabia on the difficult city circuit in Diriyah.

The Envision driver was involved in a serious accident during today’s qualifying: Sebastien locked the brakes entering Turn 1, the car continued to move, almost without changing direction, and crashed into the barrier at high speed. Fortunately, Buemi was not injured, but qualifying had to be stopped due to red flags and the races resumed after the track fence was repaired.

After the accident, FIA inspectors checked the Swiss car and concluded that it had suffered serious damage which prevented it from taking part in the race.

“Envision Racing confirms that it is withdrawing Sebastien Buemi’s car from the third round of the World Championship,” the team said. – Car No. 16 was damaged during qualifying and the FIA decided, after checking the chassis, that it was unsafe to go to the start of the race.

Now the team will fully concentrate on working with Robin Frijns’ car, who will start from the front row of the grid on Saturday in Diriyah.”

It is probably all the more disappointing for Buemi to miss this race as his partner showed the second result, meaning the Envision car is capable of excellent speed. And Oliver Rowland, a driver for the Nissan works team, will start from pole on Saturday.
