Red Bull Racing reigned supreme last year, winning 21 of the 22 races of the season and Max Verstappen crowned world champion for the third time. But in 2024 its rivals hope to be, if not ahead of the Milton Keynes team, then at least overtake it, and to stay in the lead it must not only work as efficiently as possible – this is exactly what it knows how it has to do – but manage the budget very wisely.
And budgets in Formula 1, as we know, are limited, and Red Bull Racing knows perhaps better than anyone what happens if you exceed the set limits, which can cause you to overspend. The team has already been punished for this once, although the fines imposed have had no influence on its position in the championship.
At the same time, one of the most expensive items is the wage fund, and of course the impressive fees of prominent employees, including Adrian Newey, a recognized genius in the field of aerodynamics. As Auto Motor und Sport writes: if Red Bull, in order to save significant money, transfers it to another area of activity, this will be a serious loss for the Formula 1 team.
And such ‘other work’ already exists: in 2024 Red Bull will introduce the RB17, its first production hypercar, and Newey is actively involved in this project. According to the German publication, Milton Keynes is seriously considering the possibility of fully entrusting him with the work on the RB17, and then his multi-million dollar reward could be transferred to another expense item. But in this case he will not be able to create and modernize Formula 1 cars.
However, there is no doubt that Newey has prepared a replacement for himself during his time as technical director of Red Bull Racing, because sooner or later he will have to retire. If this happens in the relatively near future, if the team slows down, it will not be so much, and to beat it, the opponents will still have to make no less effort than in previous years.
