Crawford: Marco believes in his riders and expects a lot

American Jack Crawford, who competes in Formula 2 and recently left Red Bull’s youth program, spoke in an interview with Racer about the pressure from Helmut Marko…

Jack Crawford: “The hardest thing about this program is the pressure and the high expectations. Marco believes in his riders and expects a lot from them. But from the outside it can be difficult to judge the performance of a team or driver, unless you are in the Formula 2 paddock and know what is happening there.

Sometimes this affects his decisions. The last thing you want is to have a bad weekend and get a call from Helmut asking for a meeting.

Helmut is always very busy, you usually have to wait for him. You wait, then he comes up and asks in a loud voice, “What happened?” The conversations with him are short and he gets straight to the point.

Marco is always very honest. Sometimes his words sound too harsh and seem unfair, but that is his approach.”
