Experienced Otmar Szafnauer, who was fired from the Alpine team before the summer holidays last year, could return to Formula 1 as team boss for Andretti Cadillac if the project goes ahead.
Motor Sport Magazine writes that negotiations have already taken place – this was confirmed by Safnauer himself…
Otmar Szafnauer: “I had negotiations with Michael Andretti, I said I would like to help him, but first they have to be allowed to compete in Formula 1. How else can I help?
I would like to continue my career in Formula 1, but it must be an option where my experience and knowledge can be useful. I believe I have another five to seven years of active work left.
Maybe I think too highly of myself, but I believe I can put together a good team that can perform at a good level in Formula 1. Due to the mandatory holiday I cannot do this yet, but that will end in 2024 and I can return to the sport.”
