Grosjean: I have no doubt there will be tests with Mercedes

Roman Grosjean has no doubts that Toto Wolff will deliver on his long-standing promise and that he will have the chance to test the Mercedes car. The championship team head at the time assured Roman that one day he would give him the chance to drive for tests, but this has not happened yet.

“This is 100% my fault,” Grosjean declared in the latest episode of his YouTube channel Romain Grosjean Official. – There is no way I can inform Mercedes on which specific dates I will be in Europe. If you follow my activities on social networks, you know that I moved to the US and live in Miami.

I moved here last December and before that I was constantly working on something. I was supposed to drive a Mercedes car after the French Grand Prix when the Paul Ricard circuit was due to be tested, but due to the pandemic the race date was changed and I had an Indycar race that weekend where I was on my second season now.

Therefore, there were problems due to the quarantine being introduced in the UK for those coming from France. An attempt was then made to find an opportunity to run tests at Silverstone in September, but it turned out that the track was busy that day.

But I spoke to Toto in the days of the Miami Grand Prix and he confirmed that the tests will definitely take place. I have no doubts and the Mercedes team is in constant contact with me, so I repeat: it is entirely my fault that I cannot find time to fly to Europe.

Of course I’m looking forward to this event, I’m going to drive a 2019 or 2020 Mercedes and they were very fast cars, so it’s going to be fun!”

Grosjean also spoke highly of Lewis Hamilton: “He has some problems this season, but he will definitely come back. For example, although Lewis and I never met outside the track, we never went to restaurants together, but on the track I always had much respect for him.

I like the way he pilots, that he always does his best, and he does it very well.”
