Ayo Komatsu’s career growth is impressive – not every ordinary engineer becomes a team leader, but the Japanese have done it – and before the start of his first season in this role he spoke about his plans.
Ayo Komatsu: “We don’t fully understand all the problems of our car, which means we can’t avoid them when building a new one. I won’t say that we have solved last year’s problems 100%, because we haven’t. But we have insight into which direction we should go next.
From 2019 to 2023, the program was very different. She looked alike, but was different in every way. The most important thing now is integration. If we cannot communicate effectively with the aerodynamics department in Italy and the tire department in Britain, problems will arise. I will focus on improving this interaction and our work culture. We want to move forward as one.
If you have a real problem with your car, you should discuss it openly with all specialists, even if they understand its causes differently. This cannot be avoided. But disagreement is great because everyone understands that a solution must be found, and finding a solution is the way to move in the right direction.”
