In the new year, Ferrari announced the extension of the contract with Charles Leclerc for several years. The Monegasque will drive for Ferrari at least until the end of 2026. His teammate Carlos Sainz also expects to extend his contract before the start of the new season, but more and more reports are appearing in the European press that the Spanish driver will switch teams.
The Italian publication Formu1a.un® reports, based on sources, that Ferrari is in no hurry to extend the contract with Sainz, as they are in negotiations with Lewis Hamilton. If the parties reach an agreement, the seven-time world champion will become Charles Leclerc’s partner in 2025.
Last year, Lewis extended his contract with Mercedes under the 1+1 formula, which gives him the opportunity to switch teams in 2025. The negotiations between the Scuderia and the driver are taking place with the participation of Ferrari president John Elkann and team leader Frederic Vasseur, who has friendly relations with Lewis.
Indirect confirmation of the negotiations between Hamilton and Ferrari could be the words of journalist Will Buxton, who promised that we will hear a loud statement at the end of this week.
