Brundle: There are rational arguments for Andretti’s refusal

A day earlier, Formula 1 rejected Michael Andretti’s application to participate in the championship. Former racer and Sky Sports F1 commentator Martin Brundle commented on the decision.

Martin Brundle: “Formula 1 is right to point out that Andretti, as a new team, will have to create a car from scratch for 2025, and then build a new car again for 2026, when the regulations change. This is too difficult a task.

FOM believes that the team will not be competitive. Of course, Andretti will say: “Give us a chance. We are a powerful organization with serious funding. We show what we can do and look at the results of some other teams.” Such conversations will continue for a while.

Furthermore, the Formula 1 statement contains a strong sentence that the team’s participation will bring more benefits to the Andretti brand than to Formula 1.

In addition, there are also logistical issues related to the appearance of an additional team in the pit lane and their transport around the world for 24 stages. It’s not as simple as it seems: it’s not about adding two more cars to the starting line. This requires extra space in the pit lane, extra boxes and much more. I would say there are many rational arguments for Formula 1’s decision.”
