Jehan Daruvala will be back behind the wheel of last year’s McLaren car next week for two days of private testing in Portimão, and we’ve talked about it.
For the Indian Formula 2 driver, this will be a continuation of the F1 adaptation he started at Silverstone in June, and before testing on the Portuguese track, he spoke about that first experience.
“I don’t think it’s that big of a difference in driving style, but Formula 1 cars have better grip and they have much more powerful engines,” Daruwala told FormulaScout. – But after a few laps you get used to such power. However, the main differences naturally appear when passing fast corners and braking.
In terms of high speeds, Silverstone is probably the best track to really feel a Formula 1 car. These cars have power steering and the driving experience is more pleasant, allowing you to position the car on the track however you want. Of course, the most important thing to stay at high speed is to feel confident.
Each of these two cars, F2 and F1, has its own characteristics, but it was nice that I could handle all the physical activities quite well. In my opinion, the main difference is that you learn how to properly alternate battery and attack modes, and feel comfortable with all the buttons that aren’t in the F2 car.
Secondly, you have to master all the settings that can be changed during the test process: you can change the differential settings, the intensity of the engine braking, etc. If you adapt to this, you immediately feel that the car behaves differently.”
