The Mercedes team has announced that it will end its partnership with Lewis Hamilton at the end of 2024. The British driver exercised an option in his contract that he signed last August, which allows him to leave the team after next season.
The future plans of the seven-time world champion have not yet been officially confirmed, but it is expected that he will switch to Ferrari in 2025, where he will become Charles Leclerc’s partner.
Toto Wolffteam manager: “When we evaluate the cooperation between the driver and the team, our relationship with Lewis has become the most successful in the sport – and one we can be proud of.
Lewis will always be an important part of Mercedes’ sporting history, but we knew that at some point this partnership would come to a natural end, and that day has come.
We accept Lewis’s decision to seek a new challenge and our opportunities for the future are exciting. But we still have a season ahead of us and we are focused on doing our best in 2024.”
Lewis Hamilton: “I have had eleven great years at Mercedes and I am proud of what we have achieved together. I grew up in Mercedes, so the decision to leave was one of the hardest of my life. But the time has come to take this step and I am happy to take on the new challenge.
I will always be grateful for the incredible support from Mercedes and Toto for his friendship and leadership, and I want to end this cycle on a high. “I am 100% focused on achieving the best results this season and making my final year with the Silver Arrows unforgettable.”
