Toto Wolff: I have no grudge against Lewis

Toto Wolff has spoken about his initial reaction when Lewis Hamilton informed him of his decision to join Ferrari. The Mercedes team boss added that they will remain friends despite Hamilton’s departure.

“When Lewis told me about his plans, my first reaction was: what does this all mean? – Toto Wolff shared this during a meeting with the press. – How do we communicate this to the world? What will the pressure points be? How will we proceed next season? And what are we going to do with the driver line-up?

You could say I thought like a Mercedes man, like a team man. Now, a few evenings later, I understand that our professional collaboration is coming to an end, but this does not mean that my personal relationship with Lewis ends.

I have found a friend. We have built relationships over the past ten years. Lewis found himself in a very difficult situation where he had to make a decision. This may be the first time in ten years that Lewis has brainstormed without me!

I understand the complexity of Lewis’s situation. In the future we will discuss whether it could have been done differently, but in any case I don’t blame him.”
