Alesi: Schumacher wouldn’t want a teammate like Hamilton

Jean Alesi commented in his own way on the news of Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Ferrari. In the mid-nineties he witnessed the transition of Michael Schumacher to the team from Maranello: in 1995 Alesi and Gerhard Berger played for it, and the following season the composition of the Scuderia completely changed and Schumacher and Eddie Irvine arrived there.

Alesi compared Hamilton’s upcoming switch from Mercedes to Ferrari to that situation: “Lewis is a driver of such a high level that it brings back memories of Michael Schumacher, the magnitude of these two personalities can be compared. I say this with all due respect to Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, who once also worked at Ferrari, were already world champions and achieved impressive successes.

Because I know Michael well and his way of doing business, I can assume that he would not want a driver like Lewis Hamilton to become his partner.

I predict that the 2025 season will be exciting, and with each race the interest in Formula 1 will only grow.”

Alesi also spoke highly of Carlos Sainz: “His hard work and the results he has shown in recent years deserve the highest marks. Sometimes they even surprised me. Carlos is a very fast racer, who is also distinguished by discipline and correct fighting methods on the track. I believe he is a true gentleman, but now he is in an uncomfortable situation even though he doesn’t deserve it.

“I am confident that Carlos will be able to find new opportunities to continue his career in Formula 1, because when he was Charles Leclerc’s teammate he built a very respectable reputation.”
