Red Bull offers Alex Albon a three-year contract

Several European sources, who can be considered quite authoritative and informed, write that Red Bull Racing is once again showing active interest in Alex Albon and has already offered him a three-year contract starting in 2025.

In particular, the Swiss tabloid Blick reports on this, and the subtitle of the text reads: “Hamilton provoked transfer chaos.”

And this is correct: where until recently it was assumed that the seven-time world champion had a two-year contract with Mercedes, it now turned out that there was a clause for 2025, from which Lewis benefited.

And now a vacancy opens up at the Brackley team, with Toto Wolff saying: “Maybe we have the chance to make a bold move. “I have not yet discussed with the team who we want to choose: a debutant or an experienced driver, because I do not yet know which option is better for the future of the team.”

An obvious candidate would be Alex Albon, a reliable, fast and experienced racer. He now drives for Williams, where he has high expectations, but Mercedes provides the team with power sources and is led by James Vowles, a former colleague and subordinate of Wolff. It’s likely they can come to an agreement somehow.

And this is one of the reasons that forced Red Bull to turn to Albon: after all, Alex played for both Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing and has now become a more mature professional with a very good reputation. And if there is an option to have him replace Sergio Perez again, then this would be a perfectly reasonable choice. Red Bull once underestimated him, but it is not too late to improve.

Another question is whether Albon wants to return to the team led by Max Verstappen, and in that respect nothing will change. In 2019-2020 Alex spent 26 races for Red Bull Racing, was clearly inferior to the Dutchman and knows what it is like to be his teammate.

But if Christian Horner and Helmut Marko manage to get Alex, it means the 2024 season will be Sergio Perez’s last with the Milton Keynes team. Whether the Mexican can now sign with someone else depends on several factors, including what decision Albon makes.

But not only from this: rumors have already appeared that representatives of Fernando Alonso are seeking contacts with Mercedes management. The two-time world champion’s contract with Aston Martin expires in 2024 – perhaps the Spaniard is capable of delivering another sensation to the world of Formula 1?
