James Vowles, during the presentation of the FW46, Williams’ 2024 car, emphasized the importance of this moment for the team and for him personally, as this is the first such event in the relatively short period that he has been at the helm of Williams Racing.
Q: What can you say about the FW46 livery as this is your first presentation as head of Williams?
James Vowles: I am very proud of what our team has achieved in various areas. Let’s start with this: remember what the Williams car looked like a year ago, and see what it is like now. Look how many top-notch sponsors we have now, and they are all very well-known brands. I really appreciate it, it speaks volumes about the direction we are going.
The second point I would like to mention is when I look at the new design of the car, these transitions of blue tones – it seems to emphasize what level we were at before and what we are trying to achieve. All of this symbolizes the historical legacy of the team created by Frank Williams, and also contains elements of everything we strive for.
Q: The 2023 season was the best for Williams since 2017 – the team took 7th place in the Constructors’ Championship. How will you build on your initial successes, and how do you want to further expand your work in 2024?
James Vowles: From my point of view, 7th place is not such an important achievement. We did a good job, but this work cannot be called excellent. There’s a pretty big difference between ‘good’ and ‘excellent’, and we need to tighten the boundaries considerably to eliminate this.
It is clear that it is impossible to do this in one year, but we will definitely reach the next level, because the team has confidence in itself, there is a passionate desire for success, and this is inspiring, because with so’ One attitude can overcome all difficulties.
For now, I’m looking forward to the moment when our car leaves the pits for the first time on the circuit during the pre-season testing in Bahrain. I’m looking forward to this feeling, it’s incomparable, because this will be the interim result of the work done for twelve months – that’s how much time it takes to create a new car from scratch.
The first seconds of the tests summarize the efforts of almost a thousand team members, and now I’m looking forward to it.
