Williams changed its approach to car development

Williams unveiled the FW46 for the 2024 season on Monday. Alex Albon said engineers under James Vowles took a different approach to developing new items than in previous years. The team hopes that with this new approach they can compete for higher positions on the track.

“The car looks great, I love it! – said Alex Albon at the presentation of the FW46. – Over the past year, the situation for our team has changed somewhat. There are always opportunities to add, but now it is important to understand how the new car turned out. I think it will be different in terms of approach to piloting than last year. I hope there will be speed differences.

I assume that every team will take a step forward. Everyone is talking about the increase in numbers they have achieved and how much faster they have become compared to last year. But everything is learned by comparison – we will soon discover how we look compared to others. We can say with certainty that we did well. I don’t want to say too early that we have a chance for something big, but we’ll see.

I don’t want to put pressure on James, but we are facing the first year of him really leading everything and being responsible for everything. In the previous four or five years the team took a certain approach to creating a car, but this year the differences in approach are quite noticeable.

That’s why we say the car is different from last year’s. We took more risks and tried to move away from our previous approaches and habits. This is absolutely the right decision – we will soon see if it works.”
