Toto Wolff responded to Helmut Marko’s comment

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko suggested in his comments on Lewis Hamilton’s move from Mercedes to Ferrari that it would now be difficult for Mercedes and Ferrari executives to maintain friendly relations. In response, Toto Wolff said that Lewis’ transfer would not affect his communication with Frederic Wasser.

Toto Wolff: “I have a lot of respect for Frederic, not only as a team leader, but also as an old friend. When he took up his position at Ferrari, it became clear that he had to make the most of every opportunity. So there’s nothing wrong with Frederick trying to hire the best employees and the best riders. What happened doesn’t affect our relationship.

Formula 1 is a cut-throat competition. I try to do everything I can for the sake of my team, and he for the sake of Ferrari. He and I coordinate our communications – I call him many times a week. You know, it’s like rugby: we punch each other on the nose, but off the field of play we have a respectful relationship.

I have no doubt that Frederick will be able to maintain a very good relationship with Lewis. They have known each other for over twenty years, since Lewis played for ART. Frederic understands the thoughts of the racers. He works very differently from me, but his track record shows that he is successful.”
