The Mercedes-AMG F1 Team is the first World Cup team to contribute to the development and production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
As reflected in today’s press release, this marks the beginning of a new phase in the implementation of the team’s environmental programs. Using SAF will reduce harmful emissions to the atmosphere, demonstrate the capabilities of modern technologies and bring the Net Zero program closer to achieving Formula 1 carbon neutrality by 2030.
The Mercedes-AMG F1 team, like other World Championship participants, competes on different continents of the planet, so the team is constantly trying to determine the impact it has on the environment and find measures to reduce it.
SAF is an aviation fuel derived from renewable raw materials or various types of recycled waste, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has already officially recognized that these technologies should play a critical role in reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere in the future.
The Mercedes-AMG F1 Team plans to invest millions of dollars in the development and production of SAF and will be an essential part of the team’s environmental strategy.
Toto Wolff, Head and CEO of the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team, said: “Moving to SAF could change the way we travel and the way we impact the environment. These subjects fascinate me both personally and professionally.
I fly a lot, our team also always uses aviation. If we have to do this, we have to find a way to improve it, and SAF is the best solution for the aviation industry right now.
We want to be at the forefront of this change and use the global motorsport platform as a model to drive the transition to a more sustainable future.”
