Bruno Famen: The team needs to be taken to a new level

Before last year’s Dutch Grand Prix, Bruno Famen was appointed acting team principal of the Alpine F1 team and has now taken on the full role leading the Alpine project in Formula 1. He was previously executive director of the engine division in Viry, and even earlier, until 2019, he worked in senior positions at the FIA.

Q: How do you assess the key results of the 2023 season?

Bruno Famen: Of course, last season was turbulent for the team. However, the most important thing is that we began to realize what measures need to be taken to increase the pace of its development as a whole.

In the second half of the season we implemented a number of reforms, mainly in relation to the work of the racing crew, which allowed us to achieve real success straight away. The challenge now is to extend this approach to all Alpine Racing divisions and in 2024 we will strive to make the best possible start to the season, which requires us to meet the highest standards.

We have all the necessary resources to do this, we are starting a new phase of modernization of the team’s infrastructure, and it is also very important to make the most of the potential of the many talented specialists working in all divisions of Alpine F1 .

Question: What changes have you already made in preparation for the new season?

Bruno Famen: In terms of team reorganization, we will continue what we started last year. It is necessary to create conditions for the creativity of the talented engineers working at Enstone and Viri. We must set ourselves the goal of accelerating both the pace of work and its coherence – then we can talk about increasing the level of results.

Question: What are your expectations for the coming season?

Bruno Famen: We have to take the team to the next level. Everyone knows that progress is never linear, so we don’t set goals for ourselves that are expressed in specific numbers. We are focused on our work and on improving it in all areas. Then we will be able to demonstrate greater competitiveness.

We foresee that the competition on the track promises to be fierce, but that a modernization race will also unfold at the team’s base, and we intend to actively participate in this battle.

Q: What are the challenges facing Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon?

Bruno Famen: Our drivers are among the best in the championship and we expect them to continue to work effectively with the team and each other. Both will have very important roles both on and off the track and we look forward to continuing to work with them.

Both were on the podium in 2023 – a sign of both their talent and the potential of the team, which knows how to race confidently. We have an important season ahead of us and we expect Pierre and Esteban to continue to show good results and drive the team forward, including by making a valuable contribution to the further development of the car by working on the simulator.
