Season of Russian Endurance Challenge starts July 24th

On July 24, the first leg of the national four-hour endurance racing marathon Russian Endurance Challenge (REC) kicks off at Moscow Raceway.

Well-known Russian racers are announced to participate in the competition: Vitaly Petrov, Sergey Sirotkin, Mikhail Alyoshin, Viktor Shaitar, Konstantin Tereshchenko, Alexei Dudukalo, Alexei Basov and others. Multiple winner and award winner of the 24-hour international endurance race Gabriele Piana has also been announced.

The match will take place on the same day. The race starts at 6:30 PM and ends at 10:30 PM local time. For example, the pilots will fight for the lead in the dark for almost an hour with the headlights on.

According to the regulations, almost all cars of the Russian circuit motorsport can be admitted to the race, except the formulas. The crew ensures the participation of two to four pilots, each of whom can drive for a minimum of 45 minutes and a total of no more than two hours. Refueling and tire changes are made during the race.

A few days before the start, more than twenty crews and about fifty pilots, including girls (Tatyana Dobrynina, Arina Sukhanova, Olga Zinchenko), have already applied for participation. The battle will take place for the leadership in the classes as well as in the general classification. Applications for entry keep coming – they will be accepted until the morning of the day of the competition on July 24.

The race will take place on a Grand Prix 9-track configuration, the official DTM configuration, which is 3,931 meters long. The start will be given while driving: cars from the starting grid will go to the warm-up lap behind the safety car, which will leave the track at the end of the lap, and the competitors will keep moving and start fighting for positions at the traffic lights.

As part of the first phase of the Russian series of endurance races, the Moscow Championship will be played, which will give athletes from the Moscow region the chance to achieve ranks and titles in motorsport.

Igor ErmilinGeneral Organizer of REC: “Endurance racing is a tough competition that requires maximum professionalism from teams and exceptional skills, physical health and mental stamina from pilots.

In endurance racing, many things have to be taken into account to win: each driver’s time on the track, pit runs, tire change, local weather forecast, speed. Mathematics is of great importance: the fastest in such a race is not necessarily the leader.

This year’s REC features top teams and exclusive cars. First of all, this is the race debut of two BR03 Russian-made sports prototypes from the BR Engineering team. This season they compete with each other and for the absolute result in the race. The Russian sports car Marussia GT will also start the competition for the first time – it will only participate in the general classification.

I promise viewers will see even more interesting cars and famous names in the 2022 season.”

You can watch the races on the Moscow Raceway (entrance for spectators is free) or broadcast live on the Start TV channel and on the official channel of the Russian Endurance Challenge. The 2022 calendar includes four stages: in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Sochi.
