Sebastian Vettel retired from racing at the end of 2022, but retained the directorship of the Formula 1 Drivers’ Association (GPDA), which he has held since 2010. GPDA chairman Alex Wurz said Sebastian has left his post and no other rider will be chosen in his place. The leadership of the GPDA is thus reduced to three people: Wurz himself, Mercedes driver George Russell and legal advisor Anastasia Fowl.
Alex Wurtz: “Sebastian has stepped down as director, but he obviously remains a key figure within the GPDA. We are always happy to have Sebastian participate in our discussions.
For most of its history, the GPDA had three people in leadership and we did a great job. Since a director, like any other GPDA participant, has one vote, the presence of three or four directors has no influence whatsoever on the voting results.”
Sebastian Vettel’s decision to leave his leading position at the GPDA can be seen as an indirect refutation of reports in the German press that the four-time world champion was considering returning to Formula 1.
