We reported that Formula 1 owners Liberty Media had registered several trademarks relating to the Chicago Grand Prix, sparking speculation about a fourth event coming to the US in the coming years. And while local politicians have expressed doubts about the race’s prospects at the city circuit, a new round of rumors suggests otherwise.
Fastest Pit Stop sources report that Formula 1 has not abandoned plans to hold the race in Chicago and is considering two options for the name of the stage: the North American Grand Prix or the Chicago Festival Grand Prix.
They plan to save a spot on the calendar for the race from late April to mid-June, when Chicago has the most favorable weather. Ideally, Formula 1 wants to do a double leg with the Canadian Grand Prix to minimize the costs associated with flying from Europe to North America and back.
Nothing is known about the possible timing of Chicago’s appearance on the Formula 1 calendar.
