In April, Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko turned 79. Many people of his age are enjoying a well-deserved rest, but the Austrian specialist is not retiring.
Helmut Marko: “My work is driven by passion – I’m a big fan of racing, I love sports and I love to win. None of my activities cause me stress. I feel good, so until I’m fired, I’ll keep working.”
When asked if he considers Max Verstappen’s title in 2021 as the pinnacle of his career, Marco replied: “Yes, because we have been able to end the dominance of Mercedes that has been going on since 2014 when the engine regulations changed.
Over the years we have experienced many challenges. Honda went to great lengths to create a competitive engine. And in the end we won the title with a rider who used to be a member of our youth program. Max surpassed the seven-time world champion. That was of course the best moment.”
