Lando Norris believes his compatriot George Russell has changed since moving to Mercedes. According to the McLaren driver, Russell has become much more serious, partly due to the atmosphere in the team.
Lando Norris: “Anyone who takes a closer look at George’s career is immediately impressed. But the way he performed in the leading Mercedes team against Lewis Hamilton and under a lot of pressure is simply epic. George is unusually stable.
The transition to the lead team is never easy. If you drive a car that has speed problems, you drive much more relaxed, because the cost of mistakes is small. It’s a completely different thing in the lead team – a different environment can change the rider, constant attention to you can’t help but affect.
When you fight for the first positions, you take the job much more seriously. George has always been serious, but at Mercedes these qualities are especially pronounced. He adapted to the environment in the team.
After my debut season in Formula 1, I noticed that I was misunderstood. I came to the conclusion that I needed to be more direct, more focused, less foolish. I made this decision consciously.”
