Enrique Cardile, Ferrari technical director responsible for chassis development and aerodynamic research, answered several questions from the team’s press service about the new car..
Q: What were your main goals in developing the SF-24 chassis?
Enrico Cardile: One of the main objectives was to improve driving behavior so that drivers could fully utilize the car’s potential. Another challenge was to create a solid foundation for further development, so that all our solutions found during wind tunnel research to improve chassis efficiency were confirmed on the real track.
Q: Were there any areas you paid particular attention to during chassis development?
Enrico Cardile: The most important thing for us was to create the most efficient car possible, so all parts of the chassis were completely revised and improved.
Question: Is this car very different from the previous chassis, which also used ground effect?
Enrico Cardile: During development, we had the same goals we tried to achieve when modernizing last year’s SF-23, but the new chassis is significantly different from the vehicles we had in 2022 and 2023.
Question: Were the riders’ preferences taken into account, or did you already have a very clear idea in which direction to move?
Enrico Cardile: To gain this insight, we had to understand the comments of our riders and try to translate them into certain technical solutions. Their opinions are at the heart of all our developments, and it is our responsibility to understand how to operate, design and improve the car so that drivers are happy when they drive it on the track.
