Bernie Ecclestone has long had a friendly relationship with Christian Horner, and in 2012 the head of the Red Bull Racing team was even a witness at the wedding of the former head of Formula 1 management. It should come as no surprise that in the difficult situation in which Horner now finds himself, Ecclestone tries to influence the development of events, tries to somehow reassure his friend and advises him how to act.
“The Red Bull company is in everyone’s sight and they want answers to a number of questions,” DPA quoted Ecclestone as saying. “Christian and I are old friends, and now he’s being accused of something.” But if this is not proven, then he is innocent.”
In an interview with AFP, Ecclestone provided a more detailed comment: “I advise Christian to be quiet, do nothing, adopt a wait-and-see attitude and keep an eye on developments.
We are in close contact with him. The problem is that if you are accused of something, you immediately have a lot of enemies. I just hope that someone can talk to him and that woman (who started this whole scandal) separately and this will allow us to sort everything out.
It seems to me that a certain vacuum was created after the death of Dietrich Mateschitz. Different people in different positions saw the opportunity to come up with all kinds of stories to irritate Horner. They want to dump him, even though he has achieved enormous success and done an incredible amount, not only for this team, but for Formula 1 as a whole.”
