Zac Brown: McLaren’s ambitions are podium finishes and several wins

On Wednesday, the McLaren team presented the MCL38 car and immediately conducted a first run-in of the new car at Silverstone. McLaren chief executive Zak Brown said the MCL38 has made a positive first impression and the team expects to challenge for race wins next season.

Zac Brown: “We’ve had a good winter and feel like we’re in good shape. The team is satisfied with the pace of development. It feels like we are making progress at the pace we set in the second half of last year.

If our data is correct, we should have a pretty strong start to the season. Of course, we don’t know how much progress our opponents have made, but we certainly feel like we have taken a step forward.

What are my expectations from the team? I would not call these expectations, but ambitions, because rivals do not stand still and we do not know what they have already achieved. Our hopes, our goals and our ambitions are to take a step forward.

Last year we finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, but in the second half of the season our team was second or third fastest. Our ambition is therefore to make further progress.

I don’t see any reason why we can’t win races at some point in the season. Many podium places and a few victories, that is our ambition.”
