Lewis Hamilton will have to spend his last season with the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team and at today’s presentation of the team’s new car, the seven-time world champion spoke about this, among other things.
Q: This is your last season with this team. Tell us what the last few weeks have been like for you?
Lewis Hamilton: Of course there were many experiences, and now I have an almost surreal feeling, because I joined this team in 2013, spent 11 years with it and now I am starting my 12th season. It is a real privilege to work with this team. I see how much work has gone into it over the past two years, I know how this car is made and the beginning of the year is always the most interesting time of the season.
We see all the teams presenting their new products, and at today’s presentation I see our car assembled for the first time. But I also know what is hidden under the engine housing, which is not visible from the outside. George and I will soon be testing what the W15 can do on the track. In general, this is all very exciting!
Q: What is your main focus ahead of winter testing?
Lewis Hamilton: Both now and throughout the winter, I have been mainly concerned with the physical preparation, and now the most important thing, together with the team, is to return to the positions we occupied in the recent past. Two difficult years are behind us, which forced us to come down to earth, but we were able to rebuild, and now an important process begins when we deal with the car, analyzing all the data, even if it Today it’s raining and we only ride one lap.
This alone will give George and me a first idea of what to expect from the W15.
Question: How much do you enjoy working with the team on this car?
Lewis Hamilton: I have always really enjoyed working with our team because a large number of people are involved in the making of the car. In many ways their efforts are not visible from the outside, but without their work we could never have reached the level at which we should be performing. It’s great when everyone is united by a common goal, and all year long we will focus on achieving it.
