Verstappen: Lewis will experience awkward moments with Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton’s switch from Mercedes to Ferrari was announced a year before this event. Max Verstappen thinks this will cause awkward moments between Lewis and his current team next season.

Max Verstappen: “I don’t think it’s surprising that he ended up moving to Ferrari. If driving for Ferrari was his childhood dream, then he did everything right.

From what I understand, there was an information leak and that’s why they had to announce this transition so early. There’s no doubt that there will be some awkward moments between the two over the course of the season. Despite having achieved a lot together, Lewis will no longer be involved in all team matters. But his move to Ferrari is not shocking.

There is no doubt that Lewis has a great relationship with everyone at Mercedes and with Toto Wolff. However, Toto knows that at some point he will be forced to say to Lewis: “You know, we have made significant progress, but you can’t come to the briefings anymore.” This is a normal situation for Formula 1, but still a bit strange. But they are professionals and can handle it.

It won’t happen that Lewis and his team suddenly become enemies. They have achieved a lot together and the team will continue to support him, but will not be able to share some developments. But when Lewis gets behind the wheel, the whole team will do everything they can to win the race with him.”

When asked if he was considering a move to Ferrari, Max said: “I dream of winning races. I have great respect for the Ferrari brand and hope that many teams, including themselves, will fight for victories. But right now I’m happy with my team and I don’t think I’m going anywhere.”
