Eddie Jordan: Shame on teams big and small

Former owner of his own team, folk expert Eddie Jordan, regretted in the Formula For Success podcast that for the first time in the history of Formula 1, no newcomer will appear next season…

Eddie Jordan: “I can’t tell you how angry I am. This is the fault of all ten teams. It’s terrible. Negative trend.

Shame on the teams – big and small – that don’t let young riders shine. We simply don’t have anyone left who can shout out the name ‘Best Debutant’ at the end of the season. This year there is simply no nomination. And that is wrong.

I would invite Liam Lawson to Formula 1. He did a great job last year and deserved this right. There is another young driver who not everyone knows, but he is Brazilian, and we need Brazilians in Formula 1: Felipe Drugovich. He won the Formula 2 title by an even greater margin than Oscar Piastri. He’s the one I would invite first.

We saw how great Piquet, Senna and Fittipaldi performed – great champions. Brazil has a great history in motorsport. This country once shone in Formula 1, but now there is no one left. So I would choose Felipe.

I’ve always loved young racers. Michael Schumacher, then his brother Ralf, I gave them a chance. And if you go back to 1982, Senna, with my help, had his first session in Formula 3.”
